Antioxidant and collagen-protection context

Grape Seed Extract

Ingredient detail

Ingredient context

Grape Seed Extract is included in GLOW primarily for its concentrated proanthocyanidins, which are among the more thoroughly characterised antioxidant compounds used in nutritional supplementation. Their relevance to skin health extends beyond general antioxidant activity because oxidative stress and chronic inflammatory signalling can accelerate collagen breakdown and contribute to visible skin ageing. Within GLOW, Grape Seed Extract therefore supports the formula's wider antioxidant and collagen-preservation approach rather than acting as a stand-alone skin treatment ingredient.

Evidence context

A recent review found that grape seed proanthocyanidins inhibit activation of the NF-κB inflammatory pathway and reduce downstream production of inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α, IL-1 and IL-6, all of which are involved in processes that can contribute to collagen degradation. Independent research has also measured Grape Seed Extract's antioxidant capacity as substantially higher than either Vitamin C or Vitamin E on a like-for-like basis. This strong antioxidant profile is the core rationale for including it in an oral antioxidant formula rather than relying on Vitamin C alone. In GLOW, its role is complementary, helping strengthen the formula's overall defence against oxidative stress while supporting preservation of the skin's structural proteins.
